			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Here are some absolutely amazing photos of P-51 Mustangs and Superforts that flew from Iwo Jima late in the war. The Mustangs were the first fighter planes to escort B-29 Superforts over Tokyo on bombing runs.  Most of these photos were shot in mid-1945. There&#8217;s even a photo of General Doolittle discussing a bombing run over Tokyo. Hard to imagine that the young fighter pilots shown in these photos are now in their &#8217;80s if still alive.</p>
<p>Back then we could probably build several Superforts for what the electronics in a F-18 SuperHornet cost today.</p>
